Explore the History Center!

Visiting with children? They will love the History Center! Our galleries are filled with lots of opportunities to look, touch, listen and play. Kids can jump on the saddle and ride with the cattle ranchers, play with tiny Tampa trains, or dress up like a pioneer in our Cracker cabin.

Scout Programs
Girl Scouts

Take your Scouting to a historic level at the History Center! In partnership with the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida, TBHC offers workshops to help scouts earn badges and discover unique parts of our community.

My Doll And Me
Travel through time with your favorite dolls! Peek into the past as we enjoy crafts, games and snacks as well as hands-on gallery experiences.

All activities reflect the time period or theme of each doll. American Girl© dolls are welcome but not required for participation. Designed for ages 6-12, space is limited and pre-registration is required. This is a drop-off program. Parents may wish to wait with a cup of café con leche and a guava pastry in the Columbia Cafe after viewing our permanent and traveling exhibits.

Teen Council
Teen volunteers (ages 15-18) work alongside museum staff, assisting with summer camps and special events, serving as gallery hosts, helping with children’s activities during public programs, or researching for various ongoing projects.

Volunteering at the History Center provides students with a unique opportunity to learn what happens behind the scenes at a museum, make new friends, and gain valuable experience in a work setting.

Teen volunteers should be self-motivated, responsible, energetic and upbeat. Positions are limited and are not guaranteed. Applications for special events are accepted year-round.

1) Click on the “How to Apply” tab above to submit your volunteer application. Applications and subsequent correspondence must be completed by the teen applying rather than a parent or guardian.

2) Teens must also submit a recommendation letter from a non-relative adult. Teachers, mentors, employers, etc. are all accepted. Recommendation letters should be sent to Amanda Hoffman, Youth and Family Programs Coordinator, at ahoffman@tampabayhistorycenter.org.
