NEW MUSEUM
The Tampa Bay History Center is more than a mere repository for historical facts. Functioning as a liaison between the past and the present, the museum will honor our community’s character and heritage, stirring the spirit of adventure found in all its visitors with the generations of stories it has to tell.
THE GOAL
The current objective of the Tampa Bay History Center is straightforward—to preserve and share our community’s rich history and culture in one of the finest regional history museums in the United States.
Fundraising began in 1998 when the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners designated $17 million of Community Investment Tax funds for planning and construction of the new museum. In return, History Center trustees made the unprecedented promise to the County Commission that the History Center would raise $11 million in an operating support endowment before construction began.
